Pro tip: choosing “password” as your online password is not a good idea. In fact, unless you’re hoping to be an easy target for hackers, it’s the worst password you can possibly choose.

Telecom New Zealand to Offer iPhone on November 11

Telecom New Zealand today announced it will offer iPhone 4S beginning Friday, November 11. iPhone 4S will be available starting at $0 for the 16GB model, $49 for the 32GB model and $249 for the 64GB model with a new two-year contract and data plan. While this natural disaster is incredibly unfortunate for the people of Thailand, we also will see the supply chain impacted significantly for hard drives and other sub-components. Apple have announced that iPhone 4S will be available in New Zealand and 14 additional countries on Friday, 11 November. Customers will be able to pre-order iPhone 4S beginning on Friday, 4 November.

The updated iOS 5 includes Notification Center, a way to easily view and manage notifications in one place without interruption and iMessage, a new messaging service that lets users easily send text messages, photos and videos between all iOS 5 users. iOS 5 will also be available as a free software update for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS customers. The Getting I.T. Right survey is a long-term annual survey designed to provide valuable information on the status of I.T. in New Zealand organisations, including I.T.’s involvement in organisations’ strategic planning and the level of alignment between organisations’ I.T. projects and business strategy. Facebook’s security woes: 600K accounts compromised per day

With more than 800 million active users, there’s no shortage of people looking for loopholes in the social network. The latest vulnerability has been discovered by Nathan Powers, who works for technology consultancy CDW. Powers has discovered a way for a user to send an executable file to another user who is not their friend. The risk, as Computerworld points out, is that “a hacker [could] send, for instance, a keylogging program to another user in a kind of spear-phishing attack.” Continue reading
